What do you need
The first purchase should be an electric fire extinguisher! You are dealing with a laser, not to scare you but shit happens and Its’ best to be prepared.
Just because you purchase this machine, there is plenty more that will have to go into, the preparation of this machine. You will need a cool space for your laser. The GLOWFORGE USER MANUAL states the minimum temperature where the Glowforge can be kept is 40 degrees while the minimum OPERATING temperature for the Glowforge as stated in the manual is 60 degrees.
As for space, its a pretty big machine, and depending on if you have the PRO ( the passthrough will have to be taken into account when you are working with larger projects.) So having a desk set up with wheels would come in handy.
You would need a heavy-duty desk. This is an expensive piece of equipment and you don’t want to set $6,000 on a cheap lopsided chipboard desk. I would suggest a workbench and paint it to be more aesthetically pleasing.
Next, I would recommend an inline fan. It’s not a must but if you’re running a business, the laser may overheat quicker if you have a fan to help move the smoke and debris out of the machine. An air purifier will also help with the smell. The air purifier I have has a light and will detect anything in the air. It’s the best and clear smells in a matter of minutes.
When setting up your Glowforge it will have to be connected to wifi, the glowforge doesn’t like 5G and will not work on 5G. You will have to connect to 2G.
The files you can use on your glowforge are vectors. SVG, PDFs could be used. Importing to Glowforge is similar to using Design Space (Cricut) or Silhouette.
Cuts are fast, engaves are more detailed and take longer, but scoring is a cheat code for faster time.
You don’t have to purchase the materials from Glowforge, you can purchase wood, acrylic, and other materials. I would recommend using masking tape for wood.
Adding a laser to your business or crafting hobby is a must and the Glowforge basically pays for itself. No matter if you are a beginner or pro, adding Glowforge will enhance any project.
